The Swirler
The Swirler is a vacuum multi-tool and your answer to almost everything. Its four official abilities:
- Scoop — vacuum up resources: scrap, native plants and materials dropped by Limbo's wildlife. Hold to harvest, with a faster-suction booster; scooping drains a rechargeable battery gauge (demo);
- Build — turn materials into building repairs and crafted goods;
- Glide — traversal assistance (mechanics to be detailed at launch);
- Fish — a fishing ability is officially confirmed; how it plays remains to be verified at launch.
Battery capacity is upgradeable (a demo upgrade takes it from 10 to 11 charges), and picking up the Swirler also unlocks the Double Jump (demo). Naming note: the demo UI labels it “Swirler 1.0” while press material says “Swirler 2000” — likely a tool version you upgrade; we'll confirm at launch.

Known gatherables so far: Driftwood, Scrap, Heartberry, Waterberry, Spinfruit, Zanana — the last two feed Granny's curry side quest. Each island's map keeps a resource dex with undiscovered “???” slots (demo).
Currency
The demo shows a dual-currency setup: shellings (the pink-shell coin used at shops) plus a separate gold coin counter — coins also appear as chest loot per press previews; how the two interact is still to be confirmed. Earn shellings by selling respawning fruit and finishing quests.
Gear Upgrades — Jane's Lab
Jane's Lab at the community hub sells equipment upgrades (battery capacity confirmed; inventory slots also expand via a treasure chest find). Jane herself is away in the demo, so the full upgrade catalogue and prices are a launch-week job. There's an outfit system too — the wardrobe includes a full “Lou's Standard Uniform” delivery outfit (demo).
